In 1274, Thomas Aquinas died, leaving unfinished his Summa Theologica in which he suggested that pure technical command of one's craft was not sufficient; one must also love one's craft and the community where one works and builds. Aquinas believed that loving one's work is essential to a job well done and a life well lived.
